FOUR Dons have signed contract extensions this afternoon. Adam Rooney, Niall McGinn, Lawrence Shankland and Scott McKenna today put pen-to-paper on deals at Pittodrie. The Following is from the Clubs Web Site Dons supporters have received a major Festive boost with the news that four members of the first team squad have extended their stay at Pittodrie by signing extensions to their contracts. Scotland's top scorer Adam Rooney has put pen to paper on a 3 and a half year extension that sees him remain with the Dons until the summer of 2018 while Northern Ireland international Niall McGinn and promising youngsters Lawrence Shankland and Scott McKenna have all signed contracts until the summer of 2017. Manager Derek McInnes commented. "Adam and Niall are key players within the team while both Lawrence and Scott have the potential to develop into first team regulars in the not too distant future. I've always said that, while we've enjoyed a fruitful 2014, there is still a great deal of work to be done and securing players, who we want to be part of our journey, is vital if we want to achieve the success that everyone at the club craves." Adam and Niall will meet the media tomorrow morning at the press conference ahead of Sunday's trip to Inverness. http://www.afc.co.uk/news/5498.php#.VJhPjmcgXA The Dons took on Kilmarnock at Home today and continued there winning run with another hard fought victory against Kilmarnock winning by 1 goal to 0, with Peter Pawlett scoring the winning goal in the 69th Minute, which gave the Dons 3 points that puts them into second place in the league, here is the match report from BBC Scotland Sport Aberdeen moved into second place in the Scottish Premiership after a hard-fought win over struggling Kilmarnock at Pittodrie. David Goodwillie had the best of the sparse first-half chances with a driving run and shot that hit the bar. The Dons stepped up the pressure after the break and Peter Pawlett broke the visitors' resistance when he finished Jonny Hayes' rebounded shot. Robbie Muirhead and Jamie Hamill both put late efforts over for Kilmarnock. Derek McInnes may feel his side could have won more comfortably, but it is now six wins in seven league games for his side, with a clean sheet coming with every three points. It was an eighth game without a win for Kilmarnock, although a number of players can board the team bus knowing they gave a good account of themselves. The visitors made an encouraging start and appeared to surprise the Dons with their early attacking intent, panicking the home defence. However, it was the hosts who still looked the more likely to take the lead with Adam Rooney twice firing wide inside the opening 10 minutes. Peter Pawlett (centre) celebrates his winning goal against Kilmarnock Robbie Muirhead hit a shot from distance that was deflected, but the Dons responded with Goodwillie latching on to Ryan Jack's ball and driving a shot off the bar. The Dons were slowly finding their rhythm and Niall McGinn had two half chances before Pawlett went on a mazy run through the Kilmarnock defence but could not find an end product. Much of Kilmarnock's joy was in their ability to keep Aberdeen's wide men quiet, but they lost Darryl Westlake to injury just before half-time. Aberdeen were more enterprising right after the restart, with Pawlett flashing an effort just wide of the post before Hayes brushed past Jamie Hamill and went close. The Dons were knocking the door and Goodwillie put another opportunity over after Hayes clipped a cross to the back post. Hayes was becoming more and more of a feature in the game as Westlake's injury started to take effect and another jinking run caused problems before a McGinn effort swerved away from goal when he managed to find an inch of space. It was proving to be a frustrating afternoon for the home crowd and Rory McKenzie shot straight at Scott Brown as Kilmarnock reminded them there were two teams in this game. However, their hard work was undone when Hamill's misplaced pass was pounced on by Hayes. After a driving run, he hammered a shot that goalkeeper Craig Samson could only parry into the path of Pawlett, who smashed home to break the deadlock. Killie needed to respond, but both Hamill and Muirhead wasted chances with wild efforts over the bar before a sweeping move involving Josh Magennis was finished with a badly hooked shot from Ross Barbour. Aberdeen could have added more with the trio of Jeffrey Monakana, Jack and Hayes continuing to create problems, but in the end they were happy to hear the final whistle. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/30459774 Full time in Dundee, and it has finisher Dundee UTD 0, ABERDEEN 2 an Adam Rooney double in the first half has secured all three points for the dons and sends the three and a half thousand travailing dons supporters back up the A90 Happy. On-song Aberdeen registered their third consecutive Tannadice win, beating Dundee United comfortably to go level with them on Premiership points. Adam Rooney increased his season's goal tally to 17, pouncing on Radoslaw Cierzniak's error for the first before a straightforward second soon after. United's best chance of an exciting first-half fell to Chris Erskine, who was foiled by Dons 'keeper Scott Brown. But the hosts failed to threaten in a less entertaining second half. That will frustrate Tangerines manager Jackie McNamara, given the 3-0 beating they administered to Aberdeen on the opening day of the campaign. Losing at home for the first time since May - a defeat which was also inflicted by Aberdeen - also means McNamara's Tannadice could not be described as a fortress on this occasion. The August loss clearly still rankled the Dons, who were eager to right that wrong and make it five wins from their last six in the Premiership. Aberdeen have won five of their last six games in the Scottish Premiership Derek McInnes's men quickly looked to replace those memories and almost took the lead bizarrely when Niall McGinn's 20-yard shot landed on the top of the crossbar via a deflection off United's John Rankin. Tell-tale signs of United settling were apparent, with the likes of a nice reverse pass by Erskine to Stuart Armstrong, but accurate final balls did not follow. Instead, a rare Cierzniak mistake did. The Polish goalkeeper inexplicably failed to gather a weak David Goodwillie header from McGinn's free-kick, letting it come back off his chest and onto a plate for Irishman Rooney to convert for Aberdeen. Paul Paton fizzed a 25-yard strike narrowly over to suggest a quick United reply was imminent, and that possibility seemed even more likely when Armstrong helped Erskine beat the offside trap, only for the former Partick Thistle midfielder to see his low shot saved by the legs of Brown. Cierzniak was called upon to deny Peter Pawlett from an angle but the 'keeper would be beaten again shortly after. A lovely chipped cross by Jonny Hayes found Andrew Considine at the back post and his centre left Rooney with another simple finish to double Aberdeen's advantage. Almost immediately, McGinn found another Considine delivery from the left fall to him at the other side of the box, and only the inside of the near-post prevented the Dons making it three by half-time. On the hour-mark, the former Dundee United forward Goodwillie had his best chance to score against his old employers, shooting over from 10 yards at the Shed End. And, with a lack of any real United attacking, Aberdeen's Pawlett was played through, but his low effort was turned over the bar by the onrushing Cierzniak. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/30357507 |
